About Our Heritage

Molly’s started as a husband and wife team in 1971 with the vision of bringing a taste of Nonya delicacies to as many people as possible.
After the birth of Molly’s as a roadside retail stall along Sin Ming Road, Molly decided to make her own Otah. Molly’s mother was a great contribution to the original recipe of the first Otahs that were being made in the kitchen of Molly’s kampung home at 72 Jalan Payoh Lai. Molly and her husband, Ah Joo started the production of Otah from scratch by sourcing for the mackerel fish to the chili ingredients used to create Otah Chili known as “Loom Par”. They then mixed the fish paste with “Loom Par” and subsequently wrapped it with coconut leaves and grilled them over the stove with burning charcoal.
The hard work put in was absolutely satisfying because of the fragrant and mouth-watering smell from the Otah being cooked. It drew highly positive responses and feedback from many neighbors who had turned up to buy. These were all enough to motivate the then young couple, Molly and Ah Joo to carry on and pass on the business till today.
After the success of making Otah, Molly’s own concocted fragrant Nasi Lemak was added to the list of items being manufactured and as time went by, Molly’s expanded in her product line up which included the likes of both Traditional and Nonya Kueh Delicacies.
In the ensuing years, Molly’s was registered as Molly Nonya-Cake & Confectionery and our first shop was established at No. 3 Simon Road in 1983. Then in 1992, our production was moved to Defu Industrial Park, after which in 1993, our shop operations moved to BIk 104 Hougang Ave 1 till today.
